FAQs

We’re here to help you get the most out of your run.
Let’s figure this out together.

  • Nope! There’s no issue, question or goal too small or insignificant, even if you’re 100% pain free.

While we love helping runners better understand their injuries and how to overcome them, we also love to explore what opportunities there may be to launch you closer towards your goals outside of injury. Performance is a big part of what we do.

Whether you’re looking to maintain your injury-free status, want to explore ways to find your next gear from a performance perspective or are simply curious about how to build your running practice, know that there’s no reason to wait for an injury before reaching out!

  • Usually, yes. Typically, insurance companies cover a portion of each session, though each company and individual plan varies.

If you have concerns, we recommend reaching out to your provider to better understand what you can expect.

  • Happy to!

We do offer direct billing for most insurance companies. That means that we can submit your details of your appointment to your insurance provider on your behalf, and you are only required to pay any portion that wasn’t covered.

Of course, if you’d prefer to connect with your insurance company yourself or we are unable to bill your provider directly, you’ll receive an invoice with all details that you may need to submit on your own (you’ll receive that invoice independent of insurance needs, but know that we’ve got you covered if you fall in either of those categories!).

  • At The Runner’s Academy, our team of physiotherapists and chiropractors tend to practice in a very similar manner.

Our whole team has extensive training in running mechanics and assessing and treating running injuries, as well as a passion for fast feet and heartbeats on the roads, track and trail.

So in short, regardless of who you see, you’ll be teamed up with a skilled and knowledgeable clinician on a mission to support you on the run!

Sometimes, insurance policies lead runners to seek out a clinician with specific training or background. Some people have a preferred clinician based on experience or referral. If either of those sound like you, great! We’re happy to help coordinate.

  • Absolutely!

While running happens to be our passion, we’re excited about any opportunity to help you find joy in movement and build confidence in your ability to do whatever it is that matters most to you. Whether you’re a gardener, rock climber, grandparent wanting to lift those growing kids, gearing up for an upcoming surgery, or simply curious about how to move better, we’d be thrilled to connect.

And while we have you, please know that there is no such thing as being “runner enough”. We’re grateful to have had the opportunity to support runners from those who are curious about how to get started all the way through to the pros and Olympians. There’s no pace, distance, time, race, or general “official runner” badge required!

If you run in any capacity, you are a runner and we’re here to help you reach your goals.

  • Great news - there’s a ton of overlap in how we assess for a physio or chiro consult and a gait assessment. Regardless of the title of the appointment, we’ll start with an in-depth discussion about your history, reasons for reaching out, goals, experience and so on. The more we understand about you as a runner, the better equipped we are to support you in getting to where you want to be.

After that, we’ll do a full movement screening to assess movement strategies (how you move), strength, and mobility.

In a gait assessment, we then watch you run and take a few videos of you in action. We’ll combine our findings there with everything else we’ve learned to help you find your sweet spot on the run.

In a physiotherapy or chiropractic assessment, a gait assessment may be done on the initial appointment, but it all depends on where you’re at with your injury and goals. You’ll work together with your clinician to determine if and when that’s an appropriate part of the game plan!

Still not sure? Don’t worry! Book it for either option and we’ll come up with a plan of action together during your appointment. The duration and cost of the appointments are the same, and both can be covered by insurance if you have extended health benefits.

  • Comfortable gear to run and move in! That includes running shoes, please.

For a gait assessment, we recommend contrasting colours (i.e. avoid black pants and a black top) and gear that isn’t too baggy.

  • You bet! We’re endlessly curious about all the ways in which we can better show up for runners and the run community and we’re thrilled to hear that you are too!

We have several offerings in the works, both paid and no cost. Your best bet to be in the know is to join our contact list here. You can expect to see a monthly newsletter with research highlights, clinical pearls, and an early heads-up on upcoming offerings.

  • Great! We’re always looking for people who share our belief in the transformative power of running and are all in on learning with and from others. Feel free to check us out and let’s connect!

  • We sure do! You can purchase a gift certificate to cover any of our services or a specific dollar amount. Our most popular options are a run technique analysis or a massage.
